È per questo che è da accogliere più che positivamente la notizia del rilascio sotto Creative Commons del documentario A Story of Healing di Donna Dewey e Rock Obenchain. Girato nella zona del delta del Mekong, in Vietnam, il film racconta il lavoro di un’équipe di Interplast composta da cinque infermieri, quattro anestesisti e tre chirurghi plastici e dei loro centodieci pazienti. Il film, uscito la prima volta nel 1997 e già vincitore dell’Oscar, ora è diventato il primo documentario insignito della statuetta d’oro disponibile in rete.

Uno bianca: negato il permesso premio a Gugliotta
StandardNiente permesso premio per Pietro Gugliotta, l’ex bandito della Uno bianca, nonostante si fosse pensato diversamente poco più di due settimane fa. Lo ha deciso il tribunale di sorveglianza che ha accolto il ricorso presentato alla procura della repubblica di Bologna contro la richiesta di cinque giorni fuori dal carcere per lavorare in una comunità della Caritas. Per il momento, il capitolo è chiuso. Almeno fino all’estate 2008, quando l’ex agente di polizia sarà scarcerato per aver finito di scontare la sua pena, passata da vent’anni a quattordici tra indulto e buona condotta.

Schneier: un soggetto (in)credibile per il Movie-Plot Threat Contest

We all know that a good plot to blow up an airplane will cause the banning, or at least screening, of something innocuous. If you stop and think about it, it’s a stupid response. We screened for guns and bombs, so the terrorists used box cutters. We took away box cutters and small knives, so they hid explosives in their shoes. We started screening shoes, so they planned to use liquids. We now confiscate liquids (even though experts agree the plot was implausible)… and they’re going to do something else. We can’t win this game, so why are we playing?
Well, we are playing. And now you can, too. Your goal: invent a terrorist plot to hijack or blow up an airplane with a commonly carried item as a key component. The component should be so critical to the plot that the TSA will have no choice but to ban the item once the plot is uncovered. I want to see a plot horrific and ridiculous, but just plausible enough to take seriously.
Per farlo, c’è tempo fino al 30 aprile prossimo. Da notare che, nonostante il post sia stato pubblicato il primo aprile, Schneier puntualizza che non si tratta di uno scherzo, seppur l’iniziativa sia dettata da un umorismo tanto nero quanto assurdo perché:
terrorism is a real threat, but we’re not any safer through security measures that require us to correctly guess what the terrorists are going to do next.
Un centesimo di cultura
StandardUn centesimo di cultura è l’estrema summa della lettera aperta scritta da Gianni Laterza a RCS Quotidiani Spa per l’iniziativa Corti di Carta, i libretti allegati al Corriere della Sera due volte a settimana. Gianni ha preso carta e penna chiedendo una specie di “risarcimento simbolico” al colosso editoriale che ha adottato una formula molto simile a quella intrapresa con i Millelire. Lo scopo di questo “risarcimento” è il seguente:
Vogliate destinare un centesimo per ogni copia venduta dei vostri “Corti di Carta” ad un Fondo per la pubblicazione e la diffusione di tutti quei testi editoriali di qualità che non trovano spazio nelle logiche di mercato. Il Fondo deve essere pubblico e trasparente.

StandardIn una recente intervista dal titolo Writing in the free world, lo scrittore Jonathan Lethem viene incalzato a proposito (anche) di una sua dichiatazione su diritto d’autore e copyleft contenuta nel saggio The ecstasy of influence. Nello specifico si cita:

E spiega l’autore:
Everything I’ve tried to say, in the Harper’s essay and elsewhere, is that there is an enormous middle ground. Dopo uno straccio di laicità, DICO sì

Stamattina, sulle frequenze di Città del Capo, Pino Cacucci diceva che di uno straccio di laicità c’è bisogno dato che la laicità dello stato, al momento, è avvolta da un sudario. E l’iniziativa di Axel, DICO Sì, è un ulteriore modo per ribadire che:
equiparare i DICO e le convivenze civili tra cui si ama con la pedofilia e l’incesto, mi sembra francamente troppo! Io verserò l’5 per 1000 a qualsiasi organizzazione che non sia la chiesa cattolica italiana e andrò a fare le mie donazioni in chiesa direttamente nella mia parrocchia (dove almeno so che quei soldi servono a sostenere i poveri, opere di bene, gli infaticabili sacerdoti, ecc. ecc. e dove conosco un parroco “illuminato” che ha pensieri “progressisti”).
Io devolvo ad Emergency. In ogni caso dico no a questa Chiesa impicciona, che fa politica, che dice cosa i politici credenti dovrebbero votare, a dispetto dei Patti con lo Stato Italiano.
Credo che i blogger italiani possano dire la loro, manifestando il loro dissenso per questo comportamento inaccettabile e estremista.

Uno straccio di laicità

Un’iniziativa che parte delle radio – ControRadio di Firenze l’ha lanciata e diverse altre emittenti del circuito di Popolare Network l’hanno rimbalzata in giro per l’etere – e si aggancia alla rete per potersi propagare ancora di più. È uno straccio di laicità e la sua attuazione pratica è piuttosto semplice: legare un nastro di un colore specifico a borse, auto, biciclette, zaini, motorini. Un po’ come avviene con frammenti di tessuto bianchi per Emergency o per molte altre iniziative analoghe. E il motivo è già intuibile fin dal nome. Come si legge sul sito di ControRadio:
Lanciata quasi per gioco […], la campagna ha subito dilagato […] per dichiarare pubblicamente la nostra voglia di laicità e la nostra contrarietà alle pesanti e quotidiane ingerenze del Vaticano nella vita politica italiana. E scegliete voi il colore. Gli ascoltatori hanno scelto: rosa scuro (porpora?) […]. Siamo tutti divorziati (e aspettiamo la comunione), siamo tutti conviventi, siamo tutti gay, siamo tutti credenti e tutti laici. Ma vogliamo che lo stato sia laico. Contro lo scontro di civiltà. Contro la campagna vaticana martellante, pesante e volgare, giorno dopo giorno che “iddio mette in terra”. A questa volontà scientifica di provocazione, laici e credenti (uniti nella lotta) rispondono in maniera pacifica, simpatica e non violenta.
