  • Martin Stabe, AP: Virgin [Mobile Australia] sued by Texas girl:

Creative Commons Corp was also named in the suit over the Australian mobile firm’s use of a Flickr picture in an advertisement.

  • Brenton Cleeland, Virgin Mobile advertising campaign using Flickr photos:

A little over a month ago I took a photo of a billboard I saw in Adelaide, Australia (which is part of a national advertising campaign). The reason I took the photo was because the image was credited to a Flickr user, and I thought I would take a photo so (s)he could see the photo in action. I was presuming all along that Virgin Mobile would have at least let the user know the photo was being used in this way.

  • The Australian, Virgin sued by Texas girl:

People who post photos on Flickr are asked how they want to license their attribution. The youth counsellor chose a sharing licence from Creative Commons that allows others to reuse work such as photos without violating copyright laws, if they credit the photographer and say where the photo was taken. His Flickr page appears at the bottom of the ad.
