In una recente intervista dal titolo Writing in the free world, lo scrittore Jonathan Lethem viene incalzato a proposito (anche) di una sua dichiatazione su diritto d’autore e copyleft contenuta nel saggio The ecstasy of influence. Nello specifico si cita:
Appropriation, mimicry, quotation, allusion and sublimated collaboration consist of a kind of sine qua non of the creative act.
E spiega l’autore:
Everything I’ve tried to say, in the Harper’s essay and elsewhere, is that there is an enormous middle ground. It becomes one of those issues like, “If you don’t favor wiretapping in the U.S., you must be for the terrorists.” What I’m seeking to explore is that incredibly fertile middle ground where people control some rights and gain meaningful benefits from those controls, and yet contribute to a healthy public domain and systematically relinquish, or have relinquished for them, meaningless controls on culture that impoverish the public domain.
be’, quel lungo saggio di lethem su harper’s e’ assai ben fatto e articolato, al di la’ della citazione specifica, molto utile e zeppo di riferimenti per lo sviluppo nei secoli della cultura anglosassone in particolare; tant’e’ che nell’attuale numero della rivista, lethem riceve le lodi di vari lettori, incluso larry lessig il quale dice che neppure lui avrebbe potuto spiegare cosi’ bene l’importanza e l’urgenza di salvaguardare oggi proprio quel “fertile middle ground”…
